Now that Christmas has passed, we’re looking forward to the fresh start that 2014 will bring. Like anyone, we’ve made a list of resolutions, but we think this year’s will be easier to keep thanks to some NYSOM Marketplace goodies that make the carrot and stick equally appealing. Which resolution do you think you’ll fulfill?
RESOLUTION: TO RADIATE
It’s time to sparkle and shine with this Sundial design — available as earrings, a necklace or ring — handmade in Brooklyn by Abby Carnevale Jewelry.
RESOLUTION: TO CONSOLIDATE AND REDECORATE
Enough with the clutter. Tidying up is fun to do when home accessories are this chic. Put old Christmas decorations and cards (and the bills from all that Christmas shopping) into this set of nesting boxes from Syracuse-based Smock; keep your newly acquired Christmas jewelry (or the Abby Carnevale gems, above) in a safe place, like this Adirondack Rockware covered stoneware dish; and spruce up an old couch with this hand-felted Moravian star pillow from Brooklyn’s Studio DKS.
RESOLUTION: TO EPICURATE
Let’s be honest with ourselves: a New Year’s food resolution should be about more than crash dieting. Resolve to eat better in 2014 with fresh, organic dishes. This La Mia Designs tote will remind you to visit the local farmers market; the Meesh’s Marinara sauce perfectly accompanies any meal you make (and is fail-proof even for the non-chefs among us); and the small-batch hot fudge sauce from Saratoga’s Sundaes Best means you can have your (mostly) guilt-free dessert, too.
RESOLUTION: TO COMMUNICATE
Use your words. Start a book club with friends and tote your Kindle or iPad Mini around in this gorgeous hand-felted Studio DKS case (and coordinate with the pillow, above). Throw a dinner party and serve hors d’oeuvres on this handmade Morse Code cutting board from Gowanus Furniture Co.; see if your friends can detect the embedded message. Pen an old-fashioned, handwritten note — the prettier the stationery the better, and you’ll earn good karmic points that will last through the year.
RESOLUTION: TO IMPERSONATE
Step outside yourself a bit. Masquerade with kids or friends in these fabulous handmade cotton masks from Lucky Fish.
